Last week marked the technical handover of a unique new object featuring a flue gas cleaning system, enhancing the capabilities for training in firefighting. The SAPHIRE-CTC Observation Unit is now part of the training arsenal at SDIS 78, enabling them to conduct exercises on two wood-fired training units without causing disruption to the surrounding environment.

The SAPHIRE-CTC Observation Unit is specifically designed for practicing the complete fire curve, which includes fire progression. This unit is equipped with SAPHIRE heat shields that enable it to withstand extremely high temperatures during training exercises. These heat shields are crucial for maintaining safety and providing a more immersive experience during firefighting training. Additionally, the container is designed to handle large amounts of extinguishing water, which is vital for a variety of training scenarios.

The firing chamber of the Observation Unit can accommodate all types of wood, providing versatility for trainers to create a wide range of exercises tailored to different firefighting scenarios. This flexibility is essential in firefighting training, as it equips participants with the skills and confidence necessary to manage various types of fires effectively.

High-End Smoke Gas Purification

Alongside the Observation Unit, the Massive-Attack Unit is another significant addition for SDIS 78, specifically designed for training in extinguishing techniques and attack strategies involving high fire loads. This unit is also equipped with SAPHIRE heat shields, ensuring it is suitable for extreme fire loads and corresponding temperatures. The firing chamber is designed for the use of pallets and laminated wood boards, which allows trainees to engage with realistic fire scenarios that they may encounter in real-life situations.

Training with the Massive-Attack Unit offers a comprehensive approach to firefighting training, providing firefighters with the opportunity to practice effective strategies for controlling and extinguishing large, high-intensity fires. This unit’s design enables the simulation of conditions that professionals face in emergencies, fostering an environment where trainees can build critical skills in fire management.

High-End Smoke Gas Purification

A standout feature of these new training objects is the flue gas cleaning system developed by SAPHIRE-CTC. This advanced system is specifically designed to extract and purify the smoke gases released during exercises with both pallets and laminated wood boards. The purification process is essential for maintaining a safe training environment, as it effectively processes emissions from both objects in accordance with European emission standards.

One of the major advantages of the flue gas cleaning system is its user-friendly design. It is nearly maintenance-free, requiring only the simple task of switching it on or off. This ease of use allows for uninterrupted firefighting training sessions, regardless of weather conditions, without concerns about smoke exposure for both trainees and instructors.

The integration of the flue gas cleaning system not only enhances the training experience but also emphasizes SAPHIRE-CTC’s commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. As firefighting training evolves, the ability to conduct exercises in a controlled environment without negatively impacting the surroundings becomes increasingly vital. This aligns with the growing emphasis on sustainable practices within firefighting training programs across Europe.

We thank SDIS 78 for the excellent collaboration during this project and wish them many informative training sessions on these unique training objects.

We extend our gratitude to SDIS 78 for their excellent collaboration during this project. The addition of the flue gas cleaning system and new training objects signifies a major step forward in enhancing training capabilities. We wish SDIS 78 many informative and productive training sessions with these unique tools.
